IDF Increases Ops Against Hezbollah; Beirut Affirms Sole Right to Arms

Hezbollah may soon have more to worry about than ongoing protests in Lebanon. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) has increased operations against Hezbollah, targeting military sites in Lebanon's south, according to Israeli media reports on Monday, December 19th. Citing intelligence sources, the reports indicate that the sites included underground facilities used to store weapons and train militants.

This comes despite a United Nations Security Council resolution that ended a brief war between Israel and Hezbollah in 2006, which called for a ceasefire and disarmament of Hezbollah.

While Beirut insists on its sole right to arms and resists disarmament efforts, Israel aims to disable Hezbollah's military capabilities. Israel's Prime Minister, Naftali Bennett, recently stated that Israel would not allow Iran to establish a permanent military presence in Lebanon and would take all necessary actions to prevent it.

The situation remains complex and escalating attacks against Israel's operations against Hezbollah are expected.
