The Cyberabad police have succeeded in curbing the number of cases involving minors driving vehicles in the city limits.
As per data compiled by the Traffic Police, Cyberabad, the total number of cases of minors found driving vehicles in the first six months of the current year was 94. This is in comparison to 253 such cases registered in the entirety of the previous year.
The initiative to enforce the law against under-age driving was taken up as a special drive in October last year. The traffic police booked the minors found driving on their own or accompanied by adults who were not guardians. The minors were produced before the Child Welfare Committee and their parents or guardians were also summoned.
Speaking to The Times of India, Vinod Kanumala, the Joint Commissioner of Police, Traffic, said, "In the last few months, the traffic police have booked 94 minors driving in Cyberabad city alone, though the year-on-year (YoY) figure for 2021 was different."
"The Cyberabad police have been very proactive in curbing under-age driving. We have been conducting regular raids, especially in areas where we get information on such offences. And the results are here to see," he added.
The Traffic Police have also been conducting awareness programmes in schools and colleges to discourage minors from driving and to create awareness about the dangers of drug abuse.
With the continued efforts of the Cyberabad police, the roads are expected to get safer for citizens regardless of their age and gender.
Conclusion:
The drastic drop in the number of cases involving under-age driving in Cyberabad is a cause for celebration. Notwithstanding the impressive results, the police still have a long way to go, as per Joint CP, Traffic, Vinod K. Kanumala, who stressed the need for sustained efforts to curb the menace of underage driving. With continued proactive measures and public awareness, the Cyberabad police are ensuring that the city's roads are safe for everyone.
