A special court in Palampur sentenced an accused to nine months in jail and a Rs 30,000 fine for a case registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
The convict, Sunil Katoch, alias Lucky, from Rit village in Jaisinghpur tehsil, Kangra district, was arrested during a vehicle check in Khaira. On March 4, 2021, police seized 130 gms of charas from Katoch, who was driving a temporary-registered Alto car.
The case was registered at Police Station Bhavarna. During the trial, the court held Katoch guilty, acknowledging that the testimony of independent witnesses was essential to establish the case.
This sends a clear message to drug traffickers in the region and showcases the role of independent witnesses in such cases.
