A special court in Palampur has sentenced a man to nine months in jail and a Rs 30,000 fine for drugs trafficking charges registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
Sunil Katoch, alias Lucky, from Rit village in Jaisinghpur tehsil, Kangra district, was arrested during a police operation in March 2021. They found him traveling in an Alto car with temporary registration. Upon searching the vehicle, officers recovered 130 gm of charas.
The case was registered following a detailed investigation after which Katoch was convicted and sentenced. The court found Katoch guilty of charges after hearing both sides' arguments. The role of independent witnesses in confirming the recovery was vital in establishing the case.
This sentencing is a part of the state's commitment to eradicate drug trafficking and punish perpetrators. Any violations of the NDPS Act are met with stringent actions.
