Houthis Celebrate 'Direct Missile Hit' On Israeli-owned Ship After PM's Killing

Yemen's Houthi rebels claimed another attack on the high seas, saying they targeted a tanker in the Red Sea with a missile strike, days after their prime minister was killed in an Israeli attack. But the UK Maritime Trade Operations said the attack on the Liberian-flagged Scarlet Ray missed its target. "All crew are safe and the vessel continues on its voyage," the group said. Nevertheless, the Houthis celebrated the attack on social media, claiming it was a direct hit.

The group announced on Saturday that its prime minister, Ahmed Ghaleb Nasser al-Rahawi, and other officials were killed in an Israeli air strike, although the event was not confirmed by any official sources. This claim comes after the Houthis vowed to take revenge after the death of their former leader, Hussein al-Houthi, who was killed in a Saudi-led coalition airstrike in 2020.

The situation remains tense in the region, as the group announced further escalations on social media, stating that the Israelis have "opened the gates of hell".
