Not so long ago, Carl Pei, the former marketing genius behind the AirPods and founder of Nothing, announced his debut in the smartphone industry. Now that the Nothing Phone (3) is finally here, I regret to inform you that my confidence in Pei has not been misplaced.

After reading about Nothing's attention to detail, I was curious to see the smartphone for myself. And despite its less-than-ideal specifications, the Nothing Phone (3) is a device I want to use and show off. It's a well-crafted device that feels unique in an industry of uniformity. Nothing has clearly paid attention to detail and created a genuine design masterpiece.

The transparent back, which reveals a geometric maze of cabling and colorful components, is the phone's standout feature. The see-through design is more than just a gimmick: it showcases a wireless signal map, which gives an indication of signal strength and battery charging.

The in-hand feel is exceptional, with a grip that's on par with smartphones costing twice as much. Nothing has ensured the Phone (3) is lightweight, sleek, and pocketable, weighing only 193g and measuring 69.5mm in thickness.

Moreover, the Nothing Phone (3) is also pleasing to the ears. The stereo speakers are beautifully balanced, producing loud, clear, and immersive sound quality.

But despite my enthusiasm toward the Phone (3)'s build quality, I cannot recommend it to anyone based on that alone. Unfortunately, as good as the Nothing Phone (3) feels in the hand, the overall user experience falls short of my expectations.

The Phone (3) features a mid-range Snapdragon 778G+ processor, which struggles to keep up with today's demanding apps and games. The performance is adequate for everyday tasks and basic gaming, but don't expect it to compete with flagship phones in 2023. The same can be said for the battery life, which barely lasts a day.

Further, the Camera remains inferior to other options in this price range, and the UI feels half-baked, limiting its overall usability and enjoyment.

Nothing Phone (3) is a device I can recommend to specific users, but it's not for everyone. If you're looking for a smartphone that's unique, elegant, and different from the usual offerings, Nothing's first smartphone might be worth considering.

However, if you prioritize performance, a fantastic camera, or multi-day battery life, you should look elsewhere. For now, Nothing Phone (3) makes a lot of noise with its distinctive appearance, but it doesn't quite make the cut for serious smartphone enthusiasts.
