In August 2023, the Rajasthan government joined hands with the French Development Agency (AFD) to launch a comprehensive disaster preparedness program aimed at boosting the state's resilience against climate-induced disasters. With an investment of Rs. 890 crore, the program is designed to strengthen infrastructure, governance, and institutional capacity across Rajasthan.

One of the primary components of this initiative is the establishment of a dedicated State Institute for Disaster Management, which will serve as the focal point for all disaster-related research, training, and response coordination. Additionally, the Rajasthan State Disaster Management Authority (RSDMA) will be reinforced, with the creation of district-level Disaster Management Authorities (DDMAs) to further decentralize disaster response and preparedness efforts.

The program also aims to enhance early warning systems to provide timely alerts for natural calamities such as floods, droughts, and heatwaves, which have increasingly impacted the region. The installation of monitoring systems and the introduction of sophisticated data analytics tools will enable authorities to predict extreme weather events with greater accuracy. Furthermore, the program focuses on implementing mitigation measures, such as improving infrastructure resilience and introducing climate-smart agricultural practices, to minimize the impact of disasters on vulnerable communities.

This initiative marks a significant step forward in Rajasthan's disaster management efforts, equipping the state with the necessary tools to face future challenges and ensuring that communities across the state are better prepared to respond to emergencies. The partnership with AFD reflects Rajasthan's commitment to building a sustainable and disaster-resilient future for its residents.
