Installation of 48 Weather Stations to Enhance Early Warning Systems

In a significant move to strengthen disaster preparedness, the Rajasthan government announced plans to install 48 automatic weather stations across the state by October 2024. This initiative is aimed at enhancing early warning systems for extreme weather events, particularly heavy rainfall and precipitation, to help mitigate potential disasters and enable timely responses.

Objective of the Project:The primary objective of the weather stations is to improve forecasting capabilities and ensure that the state’s disaster management teams can respond swiftly to extreme weather events. The real-time data provided by these stations will allow authorities to better predict rainfall patterns, which are critical for sectors such as agriculture, horticulture, and water management.

Collaboration with India Meteorological Department (IMD):The installation of the 48 weather stations is part of a memorandum of understanding between the Rajasthan state government and the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The collaboration aims to enhance the state's weather data network and further build its disaster preparedness infrastructure.

Expansion Plans for Future:Looking ahead, the Rajasthan government plans to expand this network, with the goal of eventually extending it to the block level. This expansion will allow for more localized weather data collection, providing communities with more accurate and timely weather alerts.

Benefits for Agriculture and Horticulture:The real-time data from the stations will significantly benefit agricultural and horticultural sectors by providing early warnings of weather changes. This will enable farmers to take preventive measures and reduce crop damage, ultimately contributing to better disaster resilience in rural areas.

With this move, Rajasthan is taking proactive steps toward strengthening its disaster management systems, aiming for greater preparedness and resilience in the face of increasingly unpredictable weather patterns.
