scarcely any rural Indian road lacks a soundtrack: the bell of the ubiquitous bicycle, which has become a lifeline in remote areas.

Yesterday, continuing a statewide initiative, Nellore's Energy Minister Gottipati Ravikumar handed out free bikes to every government high school student in his Addanki constituency.

So far, over 3,000 bicycles have been distributed across local government schools, with 316 lucky students receiving their wheels at the GHS in J Panguluru, where the Minister personally distributed them.

Ravikumar stated that the initiative has been made possible by CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility) funds from companies such as ASSIST and Megha, and he expressed his gratitude for their support.

The Minister promised that the government would continue to provide necessary infrastructure for students, expressing hope that government school students will soon perform on par with those from corporate schools.

In a separate development, the Vidyonnati Foundation, Ongole, in collaboration with the minister, distributed scholarships worth 3 lakh to 30 students at the event.

Later, in J Panguluru village, the minister distributed NTR Bharosa pensions to beneficiaries at their doorsteps and provided cheques from the CMs relief fund to 41 beneficiaries from the J Panguluru mandal. So far, over 1,027 persons have received CMRF support, and 132 were presented with letters of credit (LOCs).

"The bicycle is a symbol of empowerment for young women and a tool for rural development," Ravikumar said, emphasizing the importance of the initiative.

"I am delighted to see the smiles on the faces of these young girls who will now have easier access to education and work opportunities," he added.
