Cyberabad, a technological hub in Hyderabad, recently conducted a traffic safety campaign focused on curbing drunk driving. Over the weekend, the Cyberabad Police Commissionerate netted 319 drunk drivers across various locations. These individuals were apprehended with the goal of producing them in court.
The drive was conducted with police teams stationed at multiple locations to nab drunk drivers. The types of vehicles caught in the operation ranged from 2-wheelers, 3-wheelers, 4-wheelers, to even heavy vehicles.
According to the police, out of the 319 drivers, 7 had exceptionally high blood alcohol levels, ranging from 301 mg/100 ml to 550 mg/100 ml. The zone of Miyapur reported the highest number of cases with 41, while Shadnagar wasn't far behind with 38. Other areas such as Shamshabad, Rajendranagar, and Chevella had 32, 29, and 25 cases respectively.
Last week, the courts disposed of 217 drunk driving cases. Of this number, 205 people were fined, and 12 were sentenced to jail terms ranging from 1 to 4 days. Interestingly, 12 others were assigned social service as part of their penalty.
A senior official of the Cyberabad Police reminded the public that driving under the influence of alcohol is a very serious offense. They warned that if anyone is found guilty of causing a fatal accident while drunk, they will be charged under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023, for culpable homicide not amounting to murder. This comes with a hefty penalty of a 10-year maximum imprisonment and fine.
This recent crackdown serves as a reminder of the importance of responsible driving and the dangers of alcohol on our roads.
Conclusion:
With the 319 arrests over the weekend, the Cyberabad Traffic Police sent a strong message about cracking down on drunk driving across the city. The officials hope to continue these initiatives to ensure the safety of the public and discourage anyone thinking of drinking and driving. Remember, the consequences can be life-changing and even lethal.
