'There's a Process': Haddin Hits Back at Gavaskar After Criticising Overseas Stars

Former Australia cricketer Brad Haddin has hit back at Sunil Gavaskar's criticism of overseas players criticising India's Asia Cup squad, saying that their job is to give opinions on matters regarding cricket.

Sunil Gavaskar, the former India captain, took aim at overseas stars for their criticism of the Indian board's decision to remove Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja from the Asia Cup squad, with My11Circle's latest commercial featuring the two axed cricketers being the trigger.

"I think it's time that the likes of Ian Chappell, Richard Hadlee, Michael Holding, and some of these overseas greats, they should look at the statistics, look at the accomplishments, and then give their opinion," Haddin told SportsToday.

"Everyone's got an opinion these days but, to be honest, the job of the experts and the pundits is to give their opinion on different matters, and cricket is no different," he added.

Haddin, who worked with Ashwin during the Australian Premier League, said the off-spinner was a "good guy" and called him a "true champion."

"I get a little bit annoyed when I see that people are getting criticized for maybe giving their opinion on what they see. We all see the game slightly differently, and we are all in different situations as well," said Haddin.

The former Australia wicketkeeper-batsman concluded by saying that there needs to be more education about the game.

"I think if you're going to have an opinion on cricket, you would have to know what you're talking about. You have to be educated," said Haddin.

"I don't think it's too hard to do that; you've just got to make the effort, and maybe people should do a little bit more of that."
