Nellore is a significant constituency in the southern Andhra Pradesh region, and Ponguru Narayana is campaigning there for the Telugu Desam Party (TDP). The former Minister is vying for the Nellore Assembly seat against Mohammed Khaleel Ahmed, representing the ruling YSR Congress party. In the 2019 elections, the YSRCP won the seat, with Poluboina Anil Kumar Yadav defeating Ponguru by a narrow margin of 2988 votes.

The TDP is seeking to regain strength in the region by offering "a new vision for Andhra Pradesh with Super Six guarantees," including promises to create 20 lakh jobs for the youth and monthly unemployment allowances of Rs 3000 if the party forms the government. The Andhra Pradesh Assembly elections will be held on May 13, 2024, simultaneously with the fourth phase of voting for the Lok Sabha polls.

The TDP-JSP-BJP alliance hopes to unseat the YSRCP, which won 151 seats out of 175 in the 2019 Assembly elections and 22 out of 25 in the Lok Sabha polls. Ponguru exuded confidence in the party winning by a significant margin during a door-to-door campaign on Tuesday.
