Former NMC Commissioners accused of mortgage deed irregularities

Telugu Desam Party (TDP) spokesperson Anam Venkata Ramana Reddy has accused three former Commissioners of the Nellore Municipal Corporation (NMC) of serious irregularities in the release of mortgage deeds in favor of builders.

Speaking at the NMC office on Tuesday, Reddy alleged that D. Haritha, D. Chennudu, and Vikas Marmat, former Commissioners of the civic body, had released the deeds of 72 buildings without proper occupancy certificates (OCs). The TDP spokesperson claimed that the NMC had incurred losses of INR 18 crore due to these fraudulent releases.

In response to a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by Venkata Ramana Reddy, NMC Commissioner YO Nandan confirmed that the 72 buildings in question had not obtained OCs, but mortgage deeds were released without due procedure.

In 2024, the NMC announced that several building files had been prematurely released, with Mayor P. Sravanthi's husband, Jayavardhan, and assistant, Siva Krishna, implicated in the affair. The Commissioners' signatures were allegedly forged by several officers, after which an investigation was launched.

Venkata Ramana Reddy accused the suspended employees of a diversion tactic, however, claiming that the real culprits were the former Commissioners.
