Crystal Palace's manager threatened to walk out on the club if they went through with a summer transfer that would have seen Marc Guehi move to Liverpool, according to reports.
Guehi, who was signed from Chelsea on a permanent deal last summer, was reportedly the subject of a 35 million bid from Liverpool in the most recent transfer window.
The defender, however, ended up remaining at Selhurst Park despite his desire to play for Liverpool.
And according to The Athletic, Palace's manager, Patrick Vieira, threatened to leave the club if they went through with the transfer, claiming he had "no relationship" with Guehi and that the centre-back had requested the move.
The report adds that, following Vieira's intervention, Crystal Palace informed Liverpool that their 35 million bid had been rejected and that they would not be selling Guehi.
Guehi has since spoken out about his frustration about the move, saying that he needed "clarity" on his future.
"It was a strange situation because no one told me anything," he said. "I needed to get clarity, and my club gave me that.
I respected their decision, and I just wanted to focus on the pitch, to be fully focused on Crystal Palace, and that didn't change my mindset."
The outcome has certainly been beneficial for Crystal Palace, with Guehi playing a vital role in the club's surprise push for a European place in the current Premier League campaign.
