Seven dead in AP political rally, PM Modi announces ex-gratia

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday announced Rs 2 lakhs of ex-gratia for the families of the seven people who died in a stampede at a Telugu Desam Party (TDP) political meeting in Andhra Pradesh. 50 thousand rupees will be given to each injured person from the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund, the PM's office tweeted.

PM Modi condoled the deaths in the stampede and said he was praying for the recovery of the injured. The incident occurred at the public meeting held by TDP leader N Chandrababu Naidu in Kandukuru, Nellore. It is believed that the stampede was caused by a scuffle between party workers. Naidu also announced financial assistance of Rs 10 lakhs each to the families of the deceased.

The injured people were admitted to a nearby hospital. Children of those who died in the stampede will be offered education in NTR Trust educational institutions, Naidu also said.
