In a bid to expand the state's green cover, the Nellore district Forest Department is aiming to plant 960 hectares of land with community support. As part of the Harit Andhra Pradesh initiative, officials have prepared over 20.65 lakh saplings in nurseries, and 100 hectares have already been planted with suitable species. The Department is utilizing Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme funds to combat climate change, improve groundwater recharge, and provide shade and shelter in both urban and rural areas. Officials urge communities to adopt plantation sites and nurture saplings to help meet the goal by October.
