Lack of EMU Trains Affects Commuters in Naidupet

Thousands of daily commuters from the town of Naidupet and its surrounding areas struggle with inadequate transport infrastructure and an absence of electric multiple unit (EMU) train services directly to Chennai. Despite Naidupet's growing importance as an industrial hub and transport junction for hundreds of villages, commuters still have to take buses or other forms of transport between Naidupet and Sullurpet, which is costly, unreliable, and time-consuming.

Nellore MP Vemireddy Prabhakar Reddy has addressed the issue with the Railways union minister of state, Veeranna Somanna, arguing that extending EMU services would be socially beneficial, economically viable, and in tune with Naidupet's growing strategic importance.

Currently, 11 EMU trains are operating between Chennai and Sullurpet, but these services terminate 20 km short of Naidupet, as the towns railway station, despite having the necessary high-level platforms and a common loop line similar to Sullurpet.

The lack of direct EMU services is causing road congestion, and impacting students, professionals, traders, and patients seeking medical attention in Chennai, affecting thousands of people.
