House Difficulties: Farmers Fight for Their Lands

Protests in Andhra Pradesh's Nellore district have arisen against the state government's decision to use agricultural land for a house pattas scheme. Residents of Tada say the YS Jagan Mohan Reddy-led administration is doing injustice to them by taking back their land.

Families have used these lands for agricultural purposes for over 60 years, protesters claim. They added that the government should target unused government land in the vicinity of Vijayawada if it genuinely wants to assist underprivileged citizens.

One resident, a woman, declared, "Our troubles started after Jagan came to power." She alleges that as Dalits, they are targets of harassment and threats from members of the YSRCP.

She emphasized that officials charged Rs 20,000 for every cent of land and that police threaten them daily to vacate the land. Now, all that these families have left is land, and the government wants it too.

No resolution appears imminent, as officials are allegedly doing nothing to resolve the issue.

The woman concluded, "We will commit suicide if justice is not done."
