Maha Kumbh 2025: CM Yogi Adityanath Urges Devotees to Follow Safety Measures After Stampede Scare

A stampede-like situation emerged during the Maha Kumbh in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, prompting Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to issue an appeal to devotees for their safety. Taking to social media platform X on Wednesday, he urged attendees to follow administrative guidelines and avoid overcrowding at specific ghats.

"Dear devotees of Maha Kumbh 2025, please take your holy bath at the nearest ghat and refrain from heading toward Sangam Nose. Kindly adhere to the administration's instructions and help maintain order," he wrote, assuring that bathing arrangements were available at all ghats and warning against believing in rumors.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Wednesday, causing panic among devotees. Special Executive Officer Akanksha Rana, however, stated that the situation was under control and that the injured were receiving medical attention.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been briefed on the incident and is closely monitoring developments. Home Minister Amit Shah has also assured full support from the central government to manage the situation effectively.

Religious leaders have also appealed to devotees to prioritize their safety. Jagadguru Swami Rambhadracharya Ji, in a video message, requested pilgrims to remain at their camps due to the heavy crowds. "I urge all devotees not to insist on taking a dip only at Sangam Ghat. Prioritize safety and avoid overcrowding," he stated.

Various Akharas have echoed similar concerns, advising devotees to perform their rituals at the nearest available ghats rather than rushing toward the main congregation points. Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti acknowledged the overwhelming turnout, stating, "The number of devotees is far greater than anticipated. The entire Mela Kshetra is sacred, and pilgrims can take their holy bath at any ghat, not just Triveni Ghat."

Swami Chidanand Saraswati of Parmarth Niketan Ashram emphasized the need for collective responsibility, confirming that Prime Minister Modi has been in direct communication with CM Yogi Adityanath and that authorities are actively managing the crowd.

Following the temporary suspension of the Amrit Snan due to the congestion, some Akharas have now decided to proceed with their holy dip later in the day as crowd levels at their designated ghats subside.

As the Maha Kumbh continues, officials are implementing crowd control measures to prevent further incidents, urging devotees to remain vigilant and prioritize safety while participating in the sacred gathering.
