Despite being in coalition with the NDA, the Andhra Pradesh government has failed to secure adequate urea for farmers, forcing them to buy bags upwards of 400-600, opposed to the normal price of 270. On September 9, the YSRC will lead protest rallies in front of revenue division offices across the state to condemn the TD government's anti-farmer policies and failure to ensure fertilizer supply.
Former Minister Kakani Goverdhan Reddy accused the government of diverting 50% of the allotted urea to private traders for kickbacks, totaling over 200 crore, which has created an artificial scarcity. He further criticized Agriculture Minister Atchanaidu's insensitive remark regarding farmers queuing up for urea, saying it was an insult to cultivators.
He criticized the government for having no concern for agriculture and blamed the TD government's poor governance, inability to secure adequate urea, and failure to address the issue, despite similar issues raised in the past.
The YSRC promises to provide better governance and stand up for farmers' interests, ensuring timely supply of fertilisers through Rythu Bharosa Kendras and Markfed, Reddy said.
