The 27th conference of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) in Andhra Pradesh has called for uniting left and secular forces to combat growing communalism and authoritarian rule in the state. The conference resolution calls for resistance to government policies that benefit corporations at the expense of the people. It also emphasizes the need to strengthen the Party's independent base, crucial for building left unity. The conference was held in Nellore from February 1 to 3, 2025.
The conference was inaugurated by hoisting the Red Flag, and leaders paid floral tributes to martyrs. Various demands were proposed, including comprehensive relief and rehabilitation for those displaced by the Polavaram project, opposition to the privatization of the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant, and the construction of a steel plant in Kadapa. The rally was attended by 362 delegates and 101 observers from 27 districts and various mass fronts. The conference elected a 49-member committee and 22 delegates and five alternate delegates to the 24th Party Congress.
Key speaker Brinda Karat criticized the anti-people central budget and exposed the hollowness of the finance minister's assurances. She highlighted how the BJP-led government is surrendering to corporate interests and diverting public funds and assets to big businesses. She also emphasized the need to unite left and secular forces to combat the growing threat of communalism in the state.
The conference concluded enthusiastically with the singing of the Internationale, with V Srinivasa Rao assuring the delegates that the newly elected state committee and secretariat would take forward the conference decisions to advance mass movements in the state.
