BSF Narcotics Bust in Mizoram Links to International Racket

Drugs worth over Rs 75 crore confiscated in joint BSF, local authorities operation in Mizoram.

Eight people have been arrested and an international drugs ring has been dismantled, according to the Border Security Force (BSF).

The BSF, working with the Aizawl unit of the Narcotics Control Bureau and the Mizoram Excise and Narcotics Department, carried out a targeted inspection on August 21st.

Four vehicles were intercepted on the Aizawl-Champhai National Highway. In all, eight people were detained and arrested, and four vehicles were seized. Over 50 kilograms of methamphetamine (Yaba) tablets with an estimated illicit market value of over Rs 75 crore were found and seized. In addition, three packets of heroin were discovered.

The seizure reaffirms the determination of India's enforcement and security agencies' resolve to combat drug trafficking. The BSF stated that the operation targeted the Mizoram-Myanmar border area, known for its illicit activities.

This successful operation highlights the importance of domestic enforcement agencies working together with border security forces to prevent transnational drug trafficking and combat the illegal drug trade.

The BSF has not ruled out the possibility of future coordinated operations.
