In what is being termed a scandal, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu has accused opposition parties of spreading false information about a shortage of urea and fertilizers.

Addressing the media at the Secretariat, Naidu said that the state government is committed to the welfare of farmers, providing them with water security, and remitting Rs 7,000 each to all farmers recently under the Annadata Sukhibhava scheme.

He also warned farmers against the excessive use of fertilizers and pesticides, which can lead to health problems, and considered providing subsidies to those who minimize their use using drone technology.

Describing the false campaigns as "fake politics," Naidu said that there is sufficient stock of urea and fertilizers in all districts but some people, in the guise of farmers, attempt to create panic among farmers through false campaigns.

The Chief Minister also provided a power point presentation on the availability of urea and fertilizers in all districts and said that the government is considering acting harshly against those found to be involved in false campaigns.

He instructed the district collectors to monitor the distribution of urea and fertilizers daily to ensure that farmers across the state receive an uninterrupted supply of these essentials.

According to Naidu, as of Wednesday, urea totaling 94,892 metric tonnes is available in the state, with the central government allocating another 53,000 metric tonnes.

This scandal reveals the ways in which political opponents will go to smear their rivals, and the need for accurate, honest, and responsible reporting of the facts.
