A recent patrol intervention by the Hyderabad Narcotics Enforcement Wing (H-NEW) has led to the deportation of a 30-year-old Nigerian national who was residing in India illegally. Ali-Enuke Fortunatus Akudinanwa, also known as Fortune, was found to have been staying in the country despite the expiration of his student visa.
During a routine check in the Langer House area, H-NEW officers intercepted Fortune. During his arrest, it was noted that his visa had expired, and he had been residing in the country for around four years. According to the Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO), Fortune's stay was unauthorized.
Although Fortunes visa status and possible drug links were uncovered by authorities, he was not arrested or charged with any drugs related offenses. Nevertheless, according to intelligence gathered, he had been attempting to establish drug trafficking networks while also working as a DJ in Hyderabad pubs to supplement his income.
Fortune was swiftly deported from India and sent back to Nigeria. The H-NEW, in coordination with the FRRO, expedited the deportation process to prevent further illegal activity.
This incident has brought attention to the issue of foreigners overstaying their visas and engaging in illegal activities, such as drug trafficking. The Hyderabad police have urged residents to be vigilant and report any drug-related activity.
According to YVS Sudheendra, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Task Force/H-NEW, "each case like this is a step toward a drug-free Hyderabad."
Unfortunately, drug abuse and trafficking are all-too-common problems across the world, and unwarranted activity can often be linked to illegal staying aliens such as in this Nigerian national case.
