Opener Ruturaj Feeling Comfortable as Middle-Order Strengthens Says Captain

Ruturaj Gaikwad's impressive batting form at the start of the IPL has alleviated pressure on his shoulders and allowed him to explore his potential in the middle order, according to captain Ravindra Jadeja. Gaikwad, who scored an unbeaten 103 off just 61 deliveries in Chennai Super Kings' (CSK) season-opening victory over Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on Tuesday, has cemented his place in the team as a dangerous opener. However, his versatility has shown the M.A. Chidambaram Stadium crowd that he can perform wherever needed.

"When you are batting lower down the order, you have to be alert and your thinking has to be completely different. I felt he (Gaikwad) has done well in that department and looked comfortable," said Jadeja after the game. The right-hander, who led from the front with the ball and scored an invaluable 17 off the final over to take CSK over the line, praised his opening partner and said he hopes the 24-year-old continues his good form.

"I have been with Rutu for a long time now, since the India Under-19 days, and I have seen his progress. He's a fantastic player, and he is going to be a very big player for India in the future," he said. With Gaikwad and Jadeja's stellar performances, CSK began their IPL campaign on a high, and spectators can expect more fireworks from the team later down the tournament.
