Alberta Emergency Alert Test: Be Prepared on Wednesday

This Wednesday, Nov 20 at 1:55 pm, an Alberta Emergency Alert will be issued to ensure the system works and alert recipients know what to do in an emergency. The test is a great reminder for Albertans to check their device settings to ensure they will be alerted to receive alerts.

Public Safety and Emergency Services Minister Mike Ellis recommends downloading the Alberta Emergency Alert app and taking emergency preparedness into your own hands. He suggests using the test as an opportunity to discuss emergency preparedness with friends, family, and colleagues. This includes having a plan for pets and/or livestock in case of an emergency.

The Alberta Emergency Alert system is used to inform Albertans about emergencies such as tornadoes, wildfires, floods, and Amber alerts. This test, which occurs routinely in May and November, allows staff to identify and fix any issues. Make sure your devices are ready to receive alerts, and you have a plan for your loved ones and pets.

Ellis emphasized the importance of being prepared for an emergency.

"Emergencies can strike without warning but, with some planning, we can reduce the impact on our lives and protect the people we care about."
