Flood alert: Prepare for deluge, Hyderabad told to stay indoors

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for Telangana and Coastal Karnataka, warning of heavy rains for the next couple of days in Hyderabad and other low-lying areas. Authorities have advised residents to stay indoors and be aware of traffic diversions and warnings about low-lying areas.

The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) and the police department have also been put on alert. Officials have advised people to not step out unless absolutely necessary. People in low-lying areas have been warned to stay alert.

With the Ganesh Chaturthi festivities starting from today, the city is buzzing with activities. However, with the heavy rain forecast, traffic police and authorities are on their feet to control the crowd flocking to various pandals in the city. Several traffic diversions are in place to handle the mass, especially those heading to see the famous Khairatabad Ganesh.

The meteorological departments have also predicted moderate to heavy rains in Coastal Andhra, Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Manyam, Alluri, West Godavari, Eluru, NTR, and Guntur districts of the state.
