Yuvraj Singh Advocates Golf, Says He Would Have Scored 3000 More Runs

golfing lover Yuvraj Singh, who has now retired from all forms of cricket, has tried to convince young batting talents Shubman Gill and Abhishek Sharma to take up golfing during tours. Yuvi believes that he too would have scored 3000 more runs if he had played golf during long tours like the young cricketers of the present era.

Shubman Gill and Abhishek Sharma are arguably two of the most promising young batters in the Indian cricket team at the moment. Abhishek Sharma made his ODI debut earlier in July against Zimbabwe and Shubman Gill is already being touted as India's next great opener. Both cricketers are currently on the tour of West Indies with the India 'A' team.

During this tour, Gill and Sharma were accompanied by Yuvraj Singh who was instrumental in their golfing initiation. Having picked up the game seriously during his recovery from cancer, golfing has been a serious hobby for Yuvraj Singh. So much so, that he infamously declared himself unavailable for the national team's ODI series against Zimbabwe in 2016 citing poor form and his inclination towards golf.

In a video posted by the BCCI, the veteran midfielder can be seen sharing anecdotes with the young cricketers and encouraging them to take up golf during tours, believing it to be a better recreational activity than partying.

"I would have scored 3000 more runs if I played golf. I wish I knew how to play golf when I was playing. I didn't know how to play, so I used to waste my time partying. I used to waste two-three hours just sitting and eating," Yuvraj said in the video posted by BCCI.

While Yuvraj's statement is more wishful thinking than anything else, it does underscore the importance of striking a healthy balance between work and recreation, a balance that seems to be embodied in the leisurely, yet intellectually stimulating game of golf.
