Ever wondered who's played for more than one team in T20 cricket? We look at the 20 players who have done so with the most recent addition being Ross Taylor
International sportsmanship has always been an interesting topic for any sport and cricket is no different. There have been many instances whereby players have switched allegiance from one country to another for various reasons. Some have been deemed ineligible because of this due to strict regulations.
In the past, players have managed to get around these restrictions by retiring and waiting a few years before debuting for another team. One recent example of this is Ross Taylor who has recently announced his return to international cricket for New Zealand after retiring from the English team, thus being eligible to play for them once again.
But Taylor isn't the only cricketer to have played for two different countries in T20I cricket, so we've compiled a list of everyone who has done so.
It is worth noting that some of these players switched national teams before T20I cricket was even officially recognized by the ICC, which makes their achievements even more noteworthy.
Interestingly, seven of these players chose to play for the Netherlands over their country of birth. While Timm van der Gugten and Michael Swart were born in Australia and South Africa, respectively, the rest of the list, Eric Szwarczynski, Paul-Jan Bakker, Mark Jonkman, Peter Borren, and Shane Snater were all born in the Netherlands but switched to another team.
This just goes to show the popularity of the sport and the high regard these players must be held in to be chosen for multiple international squads.
It will be interesting to see if any current players will make this list in the future but for now, these are the players who have represented two different nations in T20I cricket.
As Ross Taylor prepares to don the White and Black of New Zealand once again, this is a reminder to us all of how talented and versatile these players are to switch international representation successfully.
