Manipur needs healing, not political stunts, says opposition leader

Manipur needs justice and reconciliation, not symbolism and political stunts, according to opposition leader Gaurav Gogoi.

In a recent interview, Gogoi, who is the leader of the Congress Party in the Lok Sabha, criticized the BJP-led government in Manipur for its handling of the recent violence in the state.

He highlighted that the underlying issues of injustice and inequality must be addressed to bring about true peace and unity in the region.

Gogoi emphasized that the recent tragic incidents in Manipur, such as the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act, AFSPA, and the monikers of "bhooti ke khilaaf tiger (tiger against ghosts)" and "son of the soil," need more than just symbolic gestures.

He argued that true justice and reconciliation are necessary to heal the deep-seated wounds in Manipur, where indigenous communities have long faced discrimination, human rights abuses, and ethnic tensions.

Gogoi demanded that the BJP-led government develop a more comprehensive approach to address the underlying issues rather than exploit them for political gain.

Only by pursuing meaningful justice, systemic reform, and inclusive dialogue can the government hope to bring about true peace and unity in Manipur, concluded Gogoi.

This interview highlights the growing calls for meaningful action and accountability in Manipur, as well the increasing frustration with the BJP's lack of substantial measures to address the systemic issues faced by the state.
