In yet another push to the infrastructure sector, the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given a go-ahead to the construction of a 4-lane highway between Badvel and Nellore in Andhra Pradesh. The project, worth Rs 3653 crore, is expected to improve connectivity to the Krishnapatnam Port, a key node under the Chennai-Bengaluru Industrial Corridor (CBIC). Aside from amplifying logistics efficiency and improving India's Logistics Performance Index (LPI), the corridor will also link key industrial nodes across three major industrial corridors, providing much-needed infrastructure support.
The proposed highway will begin at Gopavaram Village on National Highway NH-67 in the YSR Kadapa district and terminate at the Krishnapatnam Port junction on NH-16 in the SPSR Nellore district. According to the statement, the project is estimated to generate approximately 20 lakh man-days of direct employment and 23 lakh man-days of indirect employment.
"The government also released the proposed project maps of the upcoming Badvel and Nellore corridor," said the statement, adding that, "this strategic infrastructure initiative is expected to significantly support India's broader economic and logistics goals."
No further details were revealed about the planned date of commencement of construction or anticipated completion.
