AP Gov't Land Grab Worry

Villagers in Tada, Andhra Pradesh's Nellore district, protested against the state government, protesting that it is taking back agricultural land for a house pattas scheme.

Protestors stated that they would commit suicide if the YS Jagan Mohan Reddy-led government did "injustice" to them.

Families have used these lands for over 60 years for agricultural purposes; they added that the present troubles began after Jagan came to power, targeting Dalits.

They argued that the government could use unused government land near Vijayawada if it genuinely wanted to assist the underprivileged.

Villagers petitioned the Collector, local MLAs, and MRO not to acquire the land. One woman protestor stated that officials did nothing when they tried to resolve the issue, adding that they paid Rs 20,000 for every cent to authorities.

She said that police threatened them daily to vacate the land.
