Hook: Drug trafficking suspects have been arrested after authorities acted upon information exchanged via a LGBTQ dating app. Among those arrested, a doctor and a sex worker were among the seven customers caught.

Grindr, a location-based app designed for the LGBTQ+ community, has reportedly been used to sell and purchase narcotics in Hyderabad, India. Police apprehended two drug peddlers, M Ramakanth and Mudavath Prasad, and seven consumers, including a doctor and a sex worker.

Ramakanth, who was HIV-positive, used specific symbols on his Grindr profile to indicate the availability of drugs. Under arrest, he claimed that he had sourced MDMA from a Nigerian national in Bengaluru, selling it at a profit to his Grindr clients.

Police seized 100 grams of MDMA, valued at around Rs 15 lakh, as well as mobile phones and a weighing machine during a raid at Ideal Home Apartments, Seethafalmandi in Secunderabad. A fresh case has been registered under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985.

According to investigators, the accused were engaged in drug consumption combined with unsafe sexual activities, posing serious health risks. Police appealed to young people to stay away from drugs and unsafe practices, warning of the legal consequences of drug abuse.
