House Roofs Before Hunger: AP's Villagers Protest Land Take-Back

Residents of Tada in Andhra Pradesh's Nellore district protested the state government's decision to repurpose agricultural land for a house pattas scheme, with several protesters threatening self-immolation if their lands were taken.

Protesters allege that the YS Jagan Mohan Reddy-led government is doing injustice to villagers by taking back agricultural land set aside for housing schemes. They claim that the government could have utilized unused government land in the vicinity of Vijayawada if it genuinely intended to assist the underprivileged.

One woman, who identified herself as a Dalit, stated that her family has utilized the land for agricultural purposes for the past 60 years. She claimed that after Jagan came to power, they began to face harassment and that officials do nothing to resolve the issue, instead demanding Rs 20,000 for every cent of land.

She stated, "The police threaten us daily to vacate the land."

The villagers filed a petition appealing to the Collector, local MLAs, and MRO not to acquire the land. (ANI)
