Indian cricketer Yuzvendra Chahal will be leaving England shortly, terminating his contract with county side Northamptonshire, to attend to personal matters back home.
The leg-spinner was signed by Northamptonshire for the entire 2025 County Championship season. However, he will now miss the team's final three games after returning to India.
"Whatever the reason, it is always a disappointment to lose a player of Yuzi's quality and impact," Northamptonshire's director of cricket, Kyle Coetzer, said in a statement. "We appreciate that family and personal matters need to take priority, and we wish Yuzvendra and his family all the very best during this challenging time."
The 32-year-old Chahal took 10 wickets in four County Championship games, including a five-wicket haul against Yorkshire at Headingley. However, he was not picked for any of Northants' limited-overs matches.
"Everyone at the Club is proud of the manner in which Yuzvendra has conducted himself during his time in Northampton. Not only has he produced exceptional performances on the field, but he has also been a tremendous mentor to our young leg-spinners, particularly Raegan Walker," Coetzer added.
Chahal, who played the last of his 36 one-day internationals more than four years ago, said he was disappointed to be leaving Northamptonshire but looked forward to returning to the club in the future.
"I am extremely sad to be leaving Northamptonshire at this stage of the season," said Chahal. "Unfortunately, I have been forced to cut my stay with the Club short as I urgently need to attend to some pressing family matters back in India. I wish Raegan, together with all my teammates and coaching staff, the very best for the remainder of the season."
"I would like to thank the Club, my teammates, and the support staff for making me feel so welcome since my arrival. I have been thoroughly impressed by the attitude and approach of everyone involved at the Club. I hope to return to Northampton sooner rather than later."
