Royal Enfields Fake Dealership Scam Duped Hyderabad Resident of Rs. 1 Lakh
Fraudsters posing as Royal Enfield representatives have duped a Hyderabad man of Rs. 1 lakh in a fake dealership scam. As per the Borabanda police, the victim, P.Muralidhar, aged 55, is an employee of Orange Auto Pvt. Ltd in Erragadda.
He visited the Royal Enfield website and expressed interest in setting up a dealership in Hyderabad. After filling out the forms, he received a call from a person named Pankaj who claimed to be from the Dealer Development department of Royal Enfield.
Muralidhar was then induced into submitting company balance sheets, PAN cards, Aadhaar, company ITRs, and turnover records, and was told that the dealership had been approved. The fraudsters then asked for an upfront fee of Rs. 1 lakh as a registration fee and pressured Muralidhar's brother and the company's MD to pay up.
However, suspicions arose when the fraudsters started demanding an additional Rs. 5 lakh as a security deposit. Upon checking the bank account the money was transferred to, Muralidhar discovered that the account did not belong to Royal Enfield but to an individual named Rahul Kumar from Ranchi.
The money was transferred via NEFT and was immediately withdrawn. The bank account name was not revealed during the transaction, and the fraudster had cleverly labeled the account as Royal Enfield.
Muralidhar reported the crime to the Cyber Crime portal and was shocked that the initial contact appeared to be legitimate, coming after he had submitted his details on Royal Enfields website.
The scammer had called saying, "Hello, is this Rahul from Orange Auto? We got your details from the interest you showed for Royal Enfield dealership on our website."
The police have registered a case and are currently investigating.
This is an alert for anyone seeking dealership information. If youve been scammed or have information about this incident, contact the Borabanda Police for investigation and assistance.
