The Delhi Police Narcotics Department has successfully busted a cross-border narcotics ring that was smuggling drugs from Bangkok to Delhi through a network of local carriers. The arrest of the mastermind in Hyderabad helped authorities to intercept the smuggling racket and disrupt the trafficking module.
The syndicate was purchasing high-quality cannabis ('OG Ganja') in Bangkok, Thailand, for approximately Rs 1.5 lakh per kg and selling it in Delhi-NCR for Rs 6.7 lakh per kg, according to Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Harsh Indora. The criminals allegedly used local carriers who were promised easy commissions, foreign trips, and cash to sneak the drugs into India. These carriers were flown to Bangkok, where they received sealed packets of cannabis from local suppliers.
5.7 kg of cannabis, three vehicles, and two passports were seized by the police, identifying the accused as Mehraj Khan, Pratap Singh, Anil Kumar Singh, Surjeet Singh, Harpreet Singh, and Rajwant Singh. Since being intercepted on August 26, when 3.708 kg of narcotics were found concealed in two cars, the investigation has uncovered further suppliers and implicated local drug rings in Hyderabad and Bangkok.
Following the arrest of Anil Kumar Singh on Monday in Hyderabad, a raid at his native village in Azamgarh, UP, led to the recovery of another 2.029 kg of cannabis from his car. These disruptive operations send a message to syndicates that criminals will be pursued and held accountable, and that the authorities are taking aggressive steps to disrupt their activities.
