The prices of petrol and diesel were unchanged today in Delhi, Mumbai, and Hyderabad.

The prices were last changed yesterday when the prices of petrol and diesel were increased by state-owned oil firms by a minimum of 1 rupee per litre. In Mumbai, the financial capital of the country, the price of petrol was raised to Rs 107.26 per litre, while that of diesel was increased to Rs 97.30 a litre, respectively.

This fresh increase in the price of petrol has pushed the fuel to cross the Rs 100 per litre mark in 8 cities of the country, namely Mumbai, Hyderabad, Delhi, Pune, Kolkata, Chennai, Bengaluru, and Kochi.

The price hike is mainly due to the sharp increase in crude oil prices in the international market over the last two weeks. The crude oil price is at its highest point since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020.

The rise in the price of diesel has been somewhat tempered by the central government, which waived off the excise duty of Rs 8 per litre on diesel and Rs 6 per litre on petrol in early May this year. However, the excise duty waiver is now finished, and the centre has not made any further extensions.

Several states, including Rajashtan, Maharashtra, and Bengal, have also waived their Value Added Tax (VAT) on petrol and diesel ahead of the assembly elections next month.

The price of petrol and diesel is revised daily, and the changes are implemented at 6 am every day. Therefore, the price mentioned here may not be the exact same price at which you will buy petrol or diesel today.

These prices are applicable only in Delhi, Mumbai, and Hyderabad, and other cities may have slightly different prices owing to local taxes and freight charges.
