Kevin De Bruyne Admits Playing Against Manchester City 'Is Going To Be Strange'

Manchester City legend Kevin De Bruyne faces his former club Napoli as reigning Serie A champions on Wednesday. The Belgian playmaker admitted playing against his previous team is going to be strange, especially after making over 400 appearances for the Sky Blues.

"I think it will be a bit strange for everyone, even the fans," said De Bruyne. "I've been four-and-a-half wonderful years there, we've won a lot, so it will be weird, but this is football. We are professionals, we have to do our job, and they will do their job."

De Bruyne, who won four Premier League titles, five League Cups, and the FA Cup during his time at City, admitted that he still follows the club closely.

"I think the fans and the club have been always fantastic towards me, so I hope they feel the same way towards me now. It's a game, and we have to compete against each other. I don't think anyone wants to win more than the other, so it'll be a tough game."

The 31-year-old also spoke about adapting to life under new manager Antonio Conte and playing style in Italy.

"It's different, of course, than what we did in England; more is asked of you defensively, but I adapt pretty well, and I think the team is doing well."

De Bruyne has scored twice and provided eight assists in all competitions this season, including a goal and two assists in Napoli's 6-0 thrashing of Sassuolo on Saturday.

"I have responsibilities both on and off the pitch," he said. "I try to do my best, and I feel good. I feel fit, and I'm enjoying playing."

Napoli go into the game top of the league table, with Man City languishing in mid-table, unable to match the heights of previous seasons.
