The victim's family accused the officers of gross negligence and filed a complaint, which led to the arrest of three policemen attached to the SR Nagar police station. "The officer-in-charge was suspended based on the internal inquiry for his laxity, and two constables were placed under suspension for mishandling the case," said Hyderabad Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) Joel Davis.

The accused, Arif, was detained on July 21 for allegedly kidnapping and gang-raping the woman in his car. He was arrested under sections of the Indian Penal Code for rape, kidnapping, and molesting an unmarried woman. "My job and reputation are at stake because of these cops' incompetence," the victim said.

She claimed that after filing the complaint, "the cops asked me to reach the SR Nagar police station; they took my statement and asked me to give them some time to locate the vehicle owner."

The following day, the police informed her that they had traced the number to a person in Begum Bazar and that they would bring him in for questioning. "However, I later learned that he had been detained for merely using his phone to lure me," she added.

She alleged that the accused was given the opportunity to tamper with evidence when he was released on bail 15 days later.

The woman claimed that the police did not question Arif's sister, who had allegedly switched off her phone, which led to the detention of the accused. She claims that the police simply asked her to file a complaint against the sister, which she did.

The DCP claimed that action was taken against the cops after the inquiry revealed their negligence. He assured that such incidents would not be repeated and that all measures would be taken to bring the case to a just conclusion.
