The Scotland men's head coach, Doug Watson, has stepped down from his position following the team's exit from the T20 World Cup. Cricket Scotland has announced that it will begin the search for a new coach, with the ICC CWCL2 series in Namibia in March 2026 on the horizon.
Watson took over as interim head coach in August 2022 following the resignation of Shane Burger. His contract was due to expire in September 2023.
The Cricket Scotland Chairman, Neil Christie, said: "We are extremely grateful to Doug for the work he has carried out over the past nine months, taking the team to the T20 World Cup including victory over Australia and reaching the Super 12s."
"Following that achievement, and with the next cycle of ICC tournaments starting in 2025, we believe it is the right time to identify a new head coach with the required skills and experience to take the team forward."
The search for Scotland's new men's head coach will begin immediately, with the process overseen by the Director of High Performance, Simon Smith.
Smith said: "Ultimately, we want to deliver more exciting opportunities for our players, fans, and partners, and I'm really excited to identify a person who can accelerate the improvement of our men's team across all formats."
This announcement comes as Cricket Scotland continues to build momentum and excitement around the sport in the country. The upcoming ICC CWCL2 series in Namibia will be a crucial tournament for the men's team, and the search for a new coach is underway to begin preparing for this important match.
