Will the investigation reveal any clues about the culprits behind the deaths of seven cows in Nellore?
On Sunday morning, the villagers of Muthyalampadu discovered the carcasses of seven cows on the shores of the pedda kaluva lake. The animals were reportedly attacked and killed, with two of them found with their calves by their side.
Nellore rural police reached the spot, and a case was filed under Section 429 (animal cruelty) of the IPC and Section 11 (1)(m) of The Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960. An investigation is underway to determine the culprits behind the cruel act. Animal welfare groups have pushed for greater protection for cows, with some even suggesting deployment of CCTV cameras in the area to monitor such activities.
Locals depend on these cows for milk and livelihood and with the increasing number of incidents, are fearful of repercussions. Police are appealing for calm and assure comprehensive investigation.
