Former Hassan MP Prajwal Revanna, serving life in Parappana Agrahara prison for rape, has been assigned a new role as library clerk, earning Rs 522 per day. Despite his grand father HD Deve Gowda's political ties, Revanna's jail duties include cleaning and mowing the prison lawn.
Revanna, who was elected to the Lok Sabha in 2019, was arrested in August 2020 for raping a woman after allegedly drugging her. He was sentenced to life in prison after being found guilty by a Bangalore court in 2021.
The 25-year-old is now cleaning and mowing the prison lawns, as well as helping in the library, according to prison rules. Working for 8 hours a day, he earns Rs 522 per day, equivalent to about $6.26 (USD) at the current exchange rate.
The ex-MP claimed he was innocent and said he planned to appeal the conviction and sentence in a higher court. However, for now, Revanna will continue with his daily duties in the Bengaluru prison.
