Hyderabad Cyber Crime Unit Reports Increase in Online Misconduct

Cyber Crime Hyderabad The Hyderabad Police's Cyber Crime Unit has reportedly observed a rise in cybercrime, especially online scams, affecting vulnerable groups, namely senior citizens and teens. Speaking at a press conference earlier this week, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Cyber Crime Hyderabad, Rakshit Tandon revealed that the city has witnessed around 60 cases of cybercrime every month on average. These he said mostly relate to online scams, identity theft, and online harassment through social media and gaming apps.

DCP Tandon went on to note that these crimes usually target vulnerable sections of society, such as elderly people looking for companionship and unsuspecting teenagers. He added that these crimes usually result in monetary loss, with the suspects often using forged identities to build trust and rapport with their victims before exploiting them.

The police officer highlighted the unit's dedication to tackling the issue, asserting that they investigate all complaints and routinely conduct awareness campaigns to educate the public on protecting themselves from online crimes.

In light of these revelations, the Cyber Crime Hyderabad unit urged citizens to be vigilant and cautious when engaging in online interactions and transactions.

They further stressed the need to educate oneself and loved ones, especially seniors and teens, on safe internet practices and promptly report any suspicious activities or online misbehavior.

This reveals the critical role law enforcement plays in safeguarding citizens in the online realm, tackling vulnerable sectors amid the pervasiveness of cybercrime.

Overall, the disclosure highlights both the challenges and essential efforts to combat cybercrime and protect citizens in the modern digital landscape.
