Flood crisis in Andhra Pradesh

Andhra Industries Minister Mekapati Goutam Reddy visited Veerlagudipadu village, Nellore Sangam mandal, on Saturday amid continuing floods caused by heavy rains, which have displaced thousands and led to many deaths. Reddy reviewed the dire situation from a boat, listening to the villagers' plight, and assured them that a bridge would be built. He further assured that house pattas (titles) would be provided to those villagers, and directed officials to ensure timely aid for victims.

Reddy pointed out that the Penna River had not seen so much water since 1995. Officials told the Minister that the confluence of the Pincha, Cheyyeru, and Swarnamukhi rivers had caused the flood. Currently, 4.5 lakh cusecs of water were flowing down the river, they said.

The Minister directed officials to ensure adequate food and other arrangements for victims. He assured villagers that steps would be taken for rapid aid.

Many parts of Andhra Pradesh are grappling with floods caused by heavy rains, and Ongole town is among the worst hit. As of Friday, November 26, 2022, the death toll in the state stood at 45.
