title: Man loses everything after being duped by a prospective bride on a matrimony site

30-year-old Syed Mahfuz Ali from Chandrayangutta, Hyderabad, fell victim to a devastating online scam after becoming the target of alleged marriage fraud.

Ali, who came across a woman on a matrimony site who went by the name of Anitha, thought he had found the woman he would spend the rest of his life with. Standing at 5'2 inches, with brown eyes and dark hair, Anitha, who claimed to be based in London and from Chennai, began to establish a relationship with Ali.

Once she had gained his trust, Anitha suggested that they invest in Bitcoin trading through a certain platform. Ali, keen to please his prospective partner, used his life savings, took out a loan, and even borrowed money from friends, accumulating a total of 27.5 lakh.

On the platform, Ali saw that his balance was around 1.34 crore. But when he tried to withdraw the money, he was asked to pay a 10% tax payment of approximately 13.47 lakh, which Ali realizes was a major red flag.

Immediately after reporting the fraud to the authorities, Hyderabad police have now taken up the case, warning the public of the risks of unregulated cryptocurrency apps and investment opportunities through matrimonial sites and social media.

"Whenever you come across any such offers, always verify the authenticity of the website or contact the police," said officials.

The case is still under investigation.
