Former cricketer Yograj Singh, the father of Yuvraj Singh, has accused former captain Kapil Dev of fixing matches, alleging that the investigation was closed to protect Dev's celebrity status.
Yograj Singh, the former cricketer and father of former Indian cricketer Yuvraj Singh, has reportedly renewed his attacks on former teammate Kapil Dev. This comes after the senior Singh alleged earlier this year that Dev had fixed matches in the past. Having been teammates in the 1980s, Yograj claimed to have intimate knowledge of the team dynamics.
Speaking to Outlook, Yograj claimed the investigation into the match-fixing was deliberately closed to protect legends like Dev and Mohammad Azharuddin.
"I know this incident happened in the 1980s. Kapil Dev and Azharuddin were involved and the ICC (International Cricket Council) knew that. I have the proof of whatever I am saying, but the authorities didn't bother to take it further as it involved a legendary player like Kapil Dev. I failed to get any proof despite trying to expose the truth," he said.
He further alleged that he was removed from the team cabin during tours and that he felt excluded from the team.
"When I realised that my own teammates didn't want me, I decided to go. I took the decision of retiring from cricket, which was tough for me," he said.
