Tata Group Set to Create 5 Lakh Manufacturing Jobs in the Next 5 Years: Chairman N Chandrasekaran

Tata Group is set to create over 500,000 new manufacturing jobs inthe next five years, driven by its various projects, according to Tata SonsChairman N. Chandrasekaran in his New Year message to employees. "OurGroup plans to generate half a million manufacturing jobs over the next fiveyears," he stated. These opportunities will arise from the Group'sinvestments in factories and projects focused on producing next-generationproducts like batteries, semiconductors, electric vehicles, solar equipment,and other essential hardware. Chandrasekaran emphasized that these jobs wouldlargely come from the Group's expanding facilities across India, playing apivotal role in shaping the economy of the future.

In addition to the manufacturing roles, Tata Group will alsocreate employment across services, including retail, tech services, airlines,and hospitality sectors. Chandrasekaran also highlighted the Group's growinginitiatives in artificial intelligence (AI).

Construction is already underway at more than seven newmanufacturing plants, including India's first semiconductor fabricationfacility in Dholera, Gujarat, and a semiconductor OSAT (OutsourcedSemiconductor Assembly and Test) plant in Assam. Other key developments includean electronics assembly plant in Narasapura, Karnataka, an automotive plant inPanapakkam, Tamil Nadu, and new Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO)facilities in Bengaluru. Additionally, Tata will establish a battery cellmanufacturing plant in Sanand, Gujarat, and another in Somerset, UK.

Tata Group has also launched the final assembly line (FAL) for theC295 aircraft in Vadodara, Gujarat, and commenced solar module production inTirunelveli, Tamil Nadu. Chandrasekaran expressed his excitement for theopportunities in AI and manufacturing, noting the transformative impact thesesectors will have on the economy.

"These initiatives are exciting for our Group and for India,but most importantly, they provide hope for the one million young peopleentering the workforce every month. Manufacturing has a strong multipliereffect, and sectors like semiconductor manufacturing offer substantial indirectemployment opportunities," he said.

Chandrasekaran also pointed out that AI and manufacturing areconverging in a way that combines economic opportunity with social progress. Hefurther highlighted that global supply chains are increasingly shifting inIndia’s favor, as major global businesses look to balance resilience andefficiency in the face of ongoing geopolitical instability.

"Amid such uncertainty, the focus has shifted towardresilience, and India—with its vast talent pool and expanding manufacturingcapabilities—is positioned to benefit," he added. He also mentioned thatthe Group's retail companies will continue to grow and scale up in the comingyears.
