India records nearly 6.8 road accidents annually, leading to approximately 3.72 road accident deaths. The Central Government introduced the Cashless Treatment of Road Accident Victims Scheme, 2025, to provide road accident victims with cashless treatment options. The scheme allows up to 1.5 lakh for a maximum period of seven days from the date of the accident.
The Cashless Treatment of Road Accident Victims Scheme 2025 acts as a boon for road accident victims, ensuring timely medical attention and providing guidance on action taken during the crucial golden hour. The scheme is a result of the country's alarming road accident fatality rate due to a lack of timely medical assistance.
The National Health Authority acts as the implementing agency, coordinating closely with police, hospitals, and State Health Agencies to ensure smooth execution. Acting as the nodal agency, the State Road Safety Council onboards hospitals, manages patient records, and facilitates timely payments.
This scheme mandates that designated hospitals must provide immediate treatment to accident victims. If the hospital lacks the required facilities, they must arrange transportation to another hospital. Victims can receive treatment without upfront payment, and medical bills will be reimbursed through the National Health Authority later.
To ensure effective implementation, Chejerla Venkateswar Reddy, TD parliamentary general secretary, has urged creating public awareness and issuing strict instructions to all hospitals. This article aims to provide vital information on the new scheme, helping to save lives and reduce the number of road accident fatalities.
