Overshadowed by Uncertainty: Shardul Thakur Calls Out Injury Management

Indian cricketer Shardul Thakur has become the latest athlete to speak out against the poor injury management of athletes, calling for a complete overhaul of the system. In an explosive interview, the cricketer expressed his concerns over the lack of consideration for player welfare in the country.

"We are taken for granted. No one asks an athlete about his fitness or workload. It's as if we are given a gown and told to run in it. We have to ask ourselves, 'Yeh abhi kya ho raha hai?' (What is going on?)" said Thakur, who has sustained multiple injuries during his career and was even ruled out of the recent T20 World Cup due to a calf injury.

This outspokenness could signify a breaking point for athletes in India, a country known for its cricket madness, who are pushing back against the status quo to demand R&R.

"If players are not able to play, the blame is put on them. 'Yeh kabhi khud khelta hai, kabhi khud nahi khelta hai (He sometimes plays, and sometimes he doesn't play well)' ... They (the administration) have no interest in how much we have been playing."

Thakur, who is known for his fiery on-field personality, expressed his hopes that the new administration would create a sustainable environment for cricketers to thrive, allowing them to take breaks when needed and better prepare for the sport.

"I don't know if I'll be playing for India or not. No one has contacted me or any psychologist to ask how we are feeling," he said.

Thakur's comments come at a time when the sport's administration in India is going through a tumultuous transition, with many officials resigning following the resignation of former captain Virat Kohli from the national cricket board.

Whether this results in actual change remains to be seen, but one thing is certain: Thakur's comments have sparked a much-needed conversation about player welfare and the need for a better injury management system in Indian cricket.

Stay tuned as we follow this developing story.
